Is Otis 012-GP General Purpose Blend a good gun cleaner? Will it loosen and remove gun powder residue and carbon…easily?
Let’s put it to a test…
Here’s how I test gun cleaners…I simply burn about 50 grains of smokeless powder on a metal surface..not once but twice. This produces a very hard powder residue that is bonded to the metal surface. Let’s take a look at the test….
Here’s the setup….metal bar and smokeless powder.
Here’s the first 50 grain charge ready to burn.
Here’s the burn.
Let’s take a look at the residue.
This is the “baked on” powder residue. It’s very hard and very difficult to remove.
Let’s put Otis 012-GP gun cleaner to the test.
First I tried to rub the powder fouling off with just a few dry patches, As you can see it didn’t work too well.
I applied a liberal amount of Otis 012-GP to the fouling and will let it soak for 10 minutes. The keys are apply a LOT of gun cleaner and then let it SOAK.
Didn’t I say Liberally? Notice how easily the fouling is wiped off? The Otis 012-GP penetrated the fouling and lifted it off the metal surface. It wipes away easily.
Here’s the conclusion or answer. Otis 012-GP is an excellent gun cleaner. Otis makes some really good products and 012-GP is no exception. It you want to try it, here is a link to buy it online…Otis 012-GP General Purpose Blend Gun Cleaner at Amazon.com
