So is Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner any good at removing burnt on smokeless gun powder residue?
Let’s test it and see….
Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner Vs Burnt H4831 smokeless gun powder
Here are the specs of the test. I place about 50 grains of smokeless gun powder on an aluminum bar/plate and then ignite it…not once but twice. Then I apply a gun cleaner and let it soak for 10 minutes. Then I try to wipe it clean. Simple test.
Here is the burnt gun powder with Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner applied. It soaked for 10 minutes.
Here’s a close up of the burnt powder and Elite Gun Cleaner
The burnt powder wiped off very easily leaving the aluminum bar very clean.
There you go….nice and clean with no scrubbing…just a few clean patches.
Conclusion: Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner is an excellent cleaner that penetrates and loosens gun powder fouling. It lifts fouling so it can be wiped away easily. Remember that a good 10 minute soak is needed for the cleaner to penetrate and lift the fouling.
